Phase III engineering is required to provide construction inspection services for the improvement of Rand Rd at Des Plaines River. Work includes, but is not limited to, a complete structure replacement (steel beam), widening and reconstruction of Rand Road from a 4-lane to a 5-lane section, reconstruction of combination concrete curb and gutter, sidewalk, multi-use path construction and traffic signal modernization at Ballard Road and at Elk Blvd. The bridge will have a 3- span continuous steel beam superstructure with an 8-inch concrete deck supported on open (integral) abutments and solid wall encased piers. Work included, but was not limited to, the total reconstruction of the Kennedy Expressway( I-90/94) Northbound mainline to 4 through lanes between Roosevelt Road and Lake and Madison Streets in the City of Chicago using Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCC) for the mainline lanes and Portland Cement Concrete Jointed Pavement (PCC) for the ramps and tapers , construction of 6 new concrete retaining walls and repairs of 4 existing concrete retaining walls within the corridor, resurfacing the transition area at the north end of the expressway reconstruction limit, construction of a two-lane Collector Distributor (C- D) roadway with shoulder within the limits of the project along the east side, overhead signing, roadway lighting, ITS, drainage & pavement markings, lighting and ITS work within the entire Jane Byrne Interchange corridor along I-90/94 and I-290 including the approaches to the corridor from all directions for the necessary lighting and ITS transitions. The scope involves retrofitting 10 existing High Mast Light Towers to remain and replacing their luminaires from HPS to LED, retrofit 4 light towers with 26 new luminaires from HPS to LED, retrofit other luminaires to LED within the corridor, install new LED luminaires for 6 underpass lighting locations previously completed as part of the Jane Byrne Interchange other contracts, upgrade 5 underpass new locations to LED for Roosevelt, Madison , Washington, Randolph and Lake Streets, replace four existing lighting controllers , replace the temporary ITS network and infrastructure including construction of a new Communications Hut at the interchange.

In addition, construction of drainage and new pavement near the Southbound I-90/94 ramp to westbound I-290 (Ramp SW), Southbound Taylor Street exit ramp and the southbound I-90/94 ramp to Inbound I-290 (Ida B. Wells Drive) - (Ramp SE).
lJob No. D-91-295-18, FAP 345 (IL 31) over US 20 (Lake Street) Interchange, Phase II Engineering Services, Kane County, Region One/District One. Phase II engineering services was required for the preparation of contract plans, specifications and estimates including TSL, structure and roadway plans for the replacement of the existing bridge structure carrying IL 31 over US 20 and reconstruction of the interchange ramp intersections. The existing single span 70’-10” long and 72’-2” wide bridge is expected to be replaced with a wider and longer two-span structure with the center pier located in the median of US 20 with integral abutments and slope walls. The proposed structure is anticipated to be approximately 175 feet ft. long and 100 ft. wide to accommodate left turn lanes in each direction in ILL 31 and future outside and inside shoulders on US 20. Right turn lanes have also been added from IL 31 to each entrance ramps. The vertical clearance has been increased to approximately 16”- 6”. ADA ramps have been placed at corners of every intersection. The Consultant’s work includes design of the partial interchange and temporary lighting, traffic signal modernization, provisions for pedestrian and bicyclist accommodations and drainage system improvements. The work includes topographic survey, geotechnical services and all other incidental work required to complete the project.
